Adams County Habitat for Humanity

We are a Covenant Church and have a church member serving as a member on the board, as well as an active church representative.  Additionally, we organize and provide regular work crews made up of church members and an annual dollar contribution. Everyone can help to build a Habitat for Humanity Home, there are jobs for everyone 16 years or older.

Adams County Food Pantry is operated by the South Central Community Action Programs, Inc.  The Trinity congregation collects hundreds of food items and thousands of dollars every February to aide in stocking their shelves.

Adams County Shelter for the Homeless

The Shelter in Gettysburg is also operated by South Central Community Action Programs, Inc. Our involvement with the Shelter came to the forefront with announcement of the potential loss of the lease for the current Shelter site in 2007. Trinity is currently exploring ways to assist the local shelter on North Stratton Street, where up to 36 people are housed each night.  The “general population” shelter serves everyone from families with children to single adults.

CROP Walk

In over 2000 communities in the United States, CROP walks have become known as Communities Reaching Out to People.  Although the original program dates back to 1947, the first CROP Walk as we know it took place on October 17, 1969 in Bismarck, North Dakota, growing to over 1,900 such events across the United States.  In the last year over $4 million has been distributed to local food banks, pantries and other local agencies supporting hunger-fighting initiatives.  Trinity youth and adults participate annually in this walk to support hunger concerns.  This year we celebrated with one member of our congregation who walked in the Crop Walk for the 30th consecutive year.

One Great Hour of Sharing

This is an annual collection of funds used to respond to natural disasters around the world and to support on-going projects in Third World Countries.  It was originally established during World War II as part of a united nationwide effort by American Christians to provide relief and reconstruction to effected nations.  Over the course of the last 50 years this effort has grown and thrived.  The purpose of One Great Hour of Sharing has remained the same:  to collect special gifts to assist those in need worldwide.  Today, the projects are underway in more than 100 countries with receipts exceeding $20 million.  The Trinity contribution is part of this national effort to make possible disaster relief, refugee assistance and development aid.

Survivors, Inc.  We make an annual contribution to this shelter for women.

Trinity has also responded generously with thousands of dollars to recent natural disasters including the tsunami, earthquakes, and floods.

We believe that part of our Church mission is to provide assistance in many ways to our community.  To this end, Trinity has a long history of providing facilities, assistance and on going support to a number of local initiatives.  Our church is a busy place where on most days and evenings we provide meeting and activity space in our parlor and Fellowship Hall.  We are proud to be of service to the following groups.

For the Adams County Head Start program classroom space for 18 pre-school children is provided in our Fellowship Hall.  The children are here Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. They are served both breakfast and lunch. The program runs from September through May.

El Centro aides Adams County’s growing Hispanic population.  Trinity provides space for El Centro’s after school program.   Currently this program is available to youth in grades 4 through 8 two afternoons per week.  Tutors from Gettysburg College assist students with homework and basic skills.

With every passing day Trinity’s participation in supporting local community needs and worthwhile organizations grows.  We strive to be of use to our community in a Christian, caring manner and to support others who work to make our community a better place to live.

Additional support and facilities are provided in the spirit of community service and the Trinity mission to organizations which includes Boy Scout Troup 1863 who meet in our facility each Wednesday, to the local Girl Scouts at all age groups, Brownie, Junior and Senior, to the Gettysburg Little League for all organizational and directional meetings, to the betterment of amateur theatre we provide space for meetings, rehearsals, and upon request, play the host for selected performances for Gettysburg Stage and we also provide the monthly meeting space to Compassionate Friends and Mason-Dixon Area Narcotics Anonymous.
